How to Remove Swirl Marks from Car Paint
Swirl marks are fine circular scratches that dull your paint under direct light. Here's how to safely reduce them and prevent new ones.

What causes swirl marks?
Swirl marks are micro-scratches in your clear coat caused mostly by improper washing — dirty sponges, circular wiping, automatic car washes and low-quality towels drag grit across the paint. They become most visible on dark colours under sunlight or LED light.
Step 1: Wash and decontaminate
Always start with a clean surface. Use a pH-balanced shampoo and the two-bucket method with a plush wash mitt to lift grit away from the paint instead of grinding it in. Dry with a clean microfiber towel — never a household cloth.
Step 2: Apply a polish or glaze
Working panel by panel, apply a small amount of polish/liquid wax to a soft foam applicator pad. Spread in straight, overlapping passes with light pressure. The filling and gloss agents reduce the appearance of light swirls and add depth.
Step 3: Buff and protect
Let the product haze, then buff to a high gloss with a clean, folded microfiber cloth — flipping to a fresh side often. Finish with a protective wax layer so future wash-induced swirls are minimised and the shine lasts.
How to prevent swirls
Wash in straight lines (not circles), use clean microfiber only, keep two buckets (wash + rinse), and re-wax every 6–8 weeks. Good technique prevents 90% of swirl marks before they start.
